How to Pick the Best Juicer?
In every home having a juicer is no longer just a luxury but it is in fact a very practical and useful appliance in many ways. Having the right juicer will not only give you the refreshment you want to enjoy but it can contribute highly to your health and fitness. From the diet regimen that you follow to the food you serve to your family and guests, this can be your new kitchen confidant.
There are many types of juicer or also called as juice extractor. Choosing the right one is really not as simple as it looks like. It is actually a very diverse kind of product in the market. What might be the best juicer for one person might not be the best juicer for another person.
Before we get to the types of juicers, here are some things that you might first want to look into:
- Ease of use – this is not only about how to operate the machine but more importantly, how easy it is to clean. This is more often than not, the deal breaker. If you’re going to have to spend the rest of the day separating parts digging into holes just to have it cleaned, then it is best to look for something else. Check how many parts you need to remove to have it cleaned. Check if it is washable, etc.
- Noise – some power juicers are really great in performance but they are also a great annoyance. Noisy appliances are always annoying. The best way to figure this out is to have it tested. You can read customer comments online but if you want to make sure, it is best to see it for yourself if you can.
- Speed – for this, you can check the RPM (revolutions per minute). The higher the RPM, the more powerful your juicer is. Some can have up to 13,000 RPM’s like Breville. It really depends on what kind of juice you want to determine the speed that you need, which we will discuss in the types of juicers.
- Quality – of course you want something that will last. If you like throwing parties, choose one that can withstand heavy activities. Most importantly, check the warranty. At least one to two year warranty is good; the longer the warranty, the better the quality of the product.
- Juice Quality – a good juicer gives you high quality juice meaning – it still has the nutrients and enzymes. Some juicers just smash your fruits and vegetables so you don’t get the healthy stuff that you want. Also, check how much juice it can extract. And check the oxidation; high oxidation makes the juice spoil faster.
Lastly, make sure you know what types of produce you will be using. This will be the most important factor in choosing the right juicer.
So once you get all those into consideration, here are the different types of juicers to choose from. We can narrow it down to 3 basic types but now, there are actually 5 with more comprehensive uses.
- Centrifugal Juicers – this is great for large pieces of fruits and vegetables. This is the fastest, using a disc shaped shredder to spin out the juice. This is also the most affordable. This is perfect for those who just needs it for lunch or before work and have very limited time. It is also very easy to clean because it doesn’t have a lot of moving parts.
- Masticating Juicers – it is also called the single gear but basically these are the juicers that run at a slower speed. This uses a single gear so it slowly breaks down your produce. This means that the juice yield or – the juice extracted has more nutritional value and less oxidation. This is also very versatile since you can choose if you want a fine or coarse output. This is great for making baby food, sauce; it can also process wheat grass. This is also more expensive.
- Twin Gear Juicers – (traditionally called Triturating Juice Extractor) this type produces 25% more juice which has richer taste. It works the same way as the masticating juicer, only it uses two gears. It works at very slow speed extracting up to the very last drop of juice. This means it has higher yield or quality juice. This is also great for wheat grass and thin leafy vegetables.
- Citrus Juicer – this also works like the centrifugal juicer but as the name suggests, it is more for citrus like oranges, grapefruits, lemons, etc. For some models of these types, it may be more difficult to clean the strainers.
- Wheatgrass Juicer – this is of course, a special type of juicer designed specifically for wheatgrass. There is a manual type and electronic type. The electric type is also great for other leafy vegetables. But if want something that you can use for other produce as well, you might as well get the twin gear since it can juice wheat grass also and it is more versatile.
So those are the things that you want to consider before buying a juicer for your home. It really depends on what you want and need to use it for and your budget. But typically, it is recommended that you go for the more versatile ones since you’re going to be using it for a long time and you never know when you will need the other features. There may be a slight difference in price, but it will actually save you more money in the long run. So hopefully, this helps you get the best juicer to bring to your home.
